Dwijen Pravinchandra Smart, Founder & Trustee
Dwijen Smart is a seasoned professional with over 29 years of dedicated service in the field of de-addiction and substance abuse recovery. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with several leading de-addiction organizations and governmental bodies, offering his expertise in counseling, training, program development, and public awareness initiatives.
Mr. Smart began his journey in the field as a de-addiction counselor, where he provided direct support to individuals struggling with substance dependence. His empathetic approach and deep understanding of addiction psychology enabled him to help numerous clients initiate and sustain their recovery journeys. His hands-on experience at the grassroots level laid a strong foundation for the impactful work he would go on to do at national and international levels.
A key milestone in his career was his long-standing association with the Regional Resource Training Centre (RRTC) at the Muktangan Rehabilitation Centre in Pune. As an active member, he played a crucial role in training professionals, both from India and abroad, on effective methods of treatment, rehabilitation, and harm reduction. His contributions helped shape the curriculum and delivery of specialized training programs for global delegates, thereby extending his impact beyond regional borders.
From January 2006 to May 2008, Mr. Smart served as a Senior Counselor with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). In this role, he acted as a regional support person for India and contributed significantly to the development and implementation of the “Harm Reduction” program. His involvement in the H-13 Project, a key initiative under the UNODC, reflects his commitment to evidence-based interventions and inclusive, humane approaches to addiction treatment.
In addition to his national and international roles, Mr. Smart has actively contributed to local community initiatives. Notably, he worked in close coordination with the Government of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to design and implement a comprehensive de-addiction program. His efforts led to the establishment of a state-supported de-addiction center, which continues to serve as a crucial support system for individuals and families affected by addiction in the region.
Mr. Smart’s work also includes collaboration with the Pune Police Department, where he spearheaded awareness and prevention campaigns targeting diverse segments of society. He conducted workshops and educational sessions in colleges, residential societies, and corporate environments, focusing on substance abuse prevention, early intervention, and the importance of community support in recovery.

Shilpa Dwijen Smart, Co-Founder & Trustee
Mrs.Shilpa Dwijen Smart plays a pivotal role in the efficient administration and overall functioning of the center. With over 15 years of dedicated service, she has been instrumental in managing key operational areas including accounts, procurement, and the day-to-day routines essential to the center’s seamless workflow. Her academic background, comprising a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com), Government Diploma in Cooperation and Accountancy (GDC&A), and a Master’s in Social Work (MSW), forms a strong foundation for her multifaceted contributions.
In addition to administrative responsibilities, Shilpa has taken a leading role in outreach and advocacy. She actively organizes and conducts awareness programs, creating a broader understanding of addiction and recovery in the community. Her commitment to social impact is further reflected in her efforts to publicize the work and mission of Santulan, helping the organization extend its reach and deepen its impact.
A significant part of her work focuses on family engagement and support. Understanding that addiction affects not just the individual but the entire family, Shilpa took initiative in developing and nurturing the Samvad group, a support system dedicated to the spouses and families of individuals undergoing treatment. Through Samvad, she offers guidance, education, and emotional support, fostering resilience and empowerment among affected families.
Shilpa works closely with the spouses of patients, providing them with tools to cope, communicate, and rebuild relationships. Her empathetic approach and professional expertise allow her to connect deeply with families, making her an invaluable part of the healing process.

Sanjay Joglekar, Trustee
Sanjay Joglekar is a distinguished Chartered Accountant and a seasoned business professional with over 36 years of diverse industry experience across India and Europe. His career spans critical functional areas including finance, operations, mergers and acquisitions, human resources, and cultural integration. Throughout his professional journey, Sanjay has held strategic leadership positions, bringing a deep understanding of organizational dynamics and business transformation.
Beyond his financial acumen, Sanjay is widely recognized for his work as an Executive Coach. He has been mentoring C-suite executives and functional leaders, focusing on leadership development, behavioral competencies, and talent building. His coaching philosophy is grounded in helping leaders realize their potential, build emotional intelligence, and drive sustainable performance within their organizations. His rich industry exposure and nuanced perspective make him a sought-after advisor for leadership development and succession planning.
In 2016, after a long and fulfilling corporate career, Sanjay chose to retire from active business roles to pursue his true passion—social impact and community rehabilitation. Deeply moved by the challenges faced by individuals struggling with addiction, Sanjay dedicated himself to contributing meaningfully to their recovery and reintegration into society.
He plays a pivotal role in Santulan, a not-for-profit initiative focused on the rehabilitation of addicts. His involvement has been instrumental in expanding Santulan’s reach through various CSR projects, including the development of the Wadebolhai Project, a vision led by Mr. Dwijen Smart. This project aims to create a sustainable, empowering environment for individuals on the path to recovery.
Sanjay has been actively engaged in raising funds and forging strategic partnerships to bring the Wadebolhai Project to life. Under his guidance, several essential facilities have been developed, including a solar power system, a gymnasium, a dining area, and vocational infrastructure. These amenities not only improve the quality of life for the residents but also support their holistic recovery process.
A key focus area of the project, with Sanjay’s support, is to create sustainable income-generation opportunities for the patients. He has been working closely with corporate partners and industry leaders to establish employment pathways and training modules tailored to the needs and skills of recovering individuals. His efforts aim to enable them to regain confidence, financial independence, and social integration—helping them to stand firmly on their own feet.

Mr. Prashant Patankar, an engineer by profession, has been serving as a dedicated trustee for the past 15 years. Alongside his commitment to social responsibilities, he also holds a prominent position as Head of Sales at a well-reputed company, where he consistently drives excellence and achieves significant milestones. Dilip has worked in a senior position in Pune Muncipal Transport (PMT). He provides social network support for the centers.
Ratnadeep Tamhane, Trustee
Ratnadeep has been working in the field of de- addiction for over 10 years. He contributes in social awareness programs. Apart from this, he also participates in counseling and group therapy for the in- house patients.
